Still the smartest way into an EV for most NZ households. The 40 kWh ZE1 cars from 2018 on have enough range for a week of commuting on one or two charges, cost almost nothing to run, and are so plentiful that you can be picky on colour, kilometres and battery health. The 62 kWh e+ is the one to stretch to if you do open-road trips.
Check: Battery state of health. Insist on the figure (12-bar gauge at minimum, LeafSpy ideally) and price accordingly; the Leaf Index shows what the market pays for each generation.
